Personal training for weight loss in London

If you have lost the same weight more than once, the difficult part was never the losing.

Weight loss is what most people search for. Losing body fat while keeping your strength and muscle is the thing we actually coach, and the two are not the same job.

We do it one-to-one at a private studio on Orchard Street, a minute from Bond Street. Sessions are £180 an hour, and most people start with a six to eight week trial rather than committing to anything longer.

The difference

What changes when weight loss is the goal

The training changes less than people expect. What changes is everything around it: how much you eat, how consistently, how well you sleep, and what happens in the weeks when work takes the week over.

So the plan is built around what you eat and how you recover, not only around the hour you spend here. We set the numbers with you at the start, look at them every time we see you, and change them when your week does not go to plan.

It will not go to plan. That is accounted for rather than treated as a failure of willpower.

What we measure

Measured, not guessed

Scales move for reasons that have nothing to do with fat. Water, salt, sleep, what you ate the day before. All of it shows up on the reading, and none of it is the thing you came here to change.

So we take body composition measurements as well, and photographs, and we track both against the plan. It means a week where the scale has not moved is still a week you can see clearly, which is usually the week people give up.

Training

Why the plan involves lifting

The instinct when you want to lose fat is to do more cardio. It burns through calories while you are doing it, and then it stops.

Resistance training does something else. It gives your body a reason to hold on to the muscle you already have while you are eating less. Without it, a share of what you lose is muscle, which is the part you wanted to keep.

So most of the week is resistance work, with conditioning added where it earns its place rather than as the main event.

Questions people ask

How quickly will I lose fat?
That depends on where you are starting and how much of the plan survives a normal week at your job. We would rather set a rate you can hold than one that looks good for a month and then reverses. You will get an honest estimate after the assessment rather than before it.
Do I have to go on a diet?
You have to eat less than you are eating now, at least for a while. What you do not have to do is follow a meal plan written for a stranger. We build it around what you already eat, who you eat with, and the week you actually have.
Can I lose fat and build muscle at the same time?
Sometimes, particularly if you are new to lifting or coming back after a long gap. It is slower than doing one and then the other, and we will tell you which is the better use of your next three months.
Will I just put it back on afterwards?
That is the part most programmes ignore, and it is why the last two attempts probably came apart. The plan is built to be one you could keep running without us, which means it has to fit your week rather than a version of your week where nothing goes wrong.
What if I travel a lot?
Either we programme around it, or online coaching is a better fit. We will tell you which.
How much does it cost?
£180 an hour. Most people start with a six to eight week trial rather than committing to anything longer, and block bookings reduce the effective rate.
