Did you set yourself the goal this year of losing weight but it’s not happening?See if you are falling into one of the 5 traps below!

1.Fasting

For some people this might work, but for the majority of clients we see in Marylebone for fat loss or longevity, a restriction in calories in the morning leads to over eating in the evening and consequently leads to more calories being consumed across a day than if they’d just eaten steadily throughout the day but stuck to a calorie deficit (that’s the only thing that matters!).

2.Not Eating Fats

Eating fats doesn’t make you fat but too many calories does! Fats are a calorie dense macro, containing 9 calories for every gram you consume but we still need some for things like basic hormone function and more importantly when it comes to dieting, keeping you feeling full and satiated. They just need to be managed and included alongside your veg, protein and carbs making sure you still end the day in a calorie deficit.

3.High Protein Trap

We definitely want to be eating a high protein diet to help us stay full and support our muscle when trying to reduce body fat. However by actually eating a high protein diet instead of foods marketed as high protein but that don’t actually contain that much protein. Don’t be lead a stray by packaging but instead check protein content and calories. A decent serving of protein is 20g plus and remember 1 g of protein contains 4 calories. So if there are way more calories than 4 x the protein content, there are lots of other things in there too!

4.Pretending Snacks Don’t Count

A nibble here and there, picking at some left overs and just having an extra spoon full or two all add up! It’s so easy to add on hundreds of extra calories across a day from the little extras that you decide not to log. Unfortunately it all counts so don’t fool yourself into thinking you’ve had less than you actually have and wonder why the scales aren’t shifting.

5.Too Many Workouts

Swapping from one random workout to another and thinking you can burn off the extra calories you have consumed by training everyday only leads to you burning out, not progressing in the gym, feeling super hungry and not losing weight! Stick to a set plan that you can progress week on week and move away from the mentality of burning off what you eat. You can’t out train a bad diet but you can lose weight by controlling your intake!
